ARTIST INFORMATION - SUSAN BETTS

Susan was born in 1969 in the Tuna fishing town of Port Lincoln on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula and her family ties are to the Kokata, Wirangu and Mirning groups from the Far-Western Nullarbor Plains of South Australia.

For many years Susan worked as a contemporary artist and designer for the Aboriginal design company Balarinji during which time she designed Qantas’ iconic Boeing 747 jet (named Nalanji Dreaming) as well as producing the design “Sweet Water” for Coca Cola’s 2m Coke bottle statue (currently viewed at their Museum in Atlanta, USA and other work(s) for the Sydney Olympic Committee.

For the talented and prolific Susan Betts, “spare time” is at a premium but she has nonetheless included many workshops in dozens of schools (public & private) teaching indigenous and non-indigenous students about her complex and fascinating culture, past and present. The opportunity to share the diversities and values of her culture is greatly enjoyed by Susan.
